Where This Story Really Begins
If you found your way here because of grief, loss, widowhood, rebuilding, or learning how to love a life you never expected to be living, you should probably know something first:
My story didn’t begin when my husband died.
And neither did I.
Before grief became one of the loudest parts of my story, there was already an entire woman here.
A police officer.A wife.A mother.A woman trying to build a career in spaces that weren't always designed for her.A woman with opinions, ambition, insecurities, stories, friendships, mistakes, dreams, and a whole collection of people who had shaped her along the way.
I was already becoming.
I just didn't know how many times life would ask me to become someone new.
When I decided to build The People We Collect, I knew I couldn't start only with the worst thing that ever happened to me. Because grief doesn't exist in a vacuum. Neither does healing. Neither does reinvention.
The woman walking through this chapter of my life was built by every chapter that came before it.
So before I take you into the loss, the loneliness, the anger, the rebuilding, the unexpected love, and the complicated reality of moving forward, I want to introduce you to some of the women I used to be.
Some of these posts were written years ago.
I'm leaving them mostly as they were because I think there is something powerful about hearing your own voice from before you knew what was coming.
You'll meet the woman who worked in law enforcement. The woman navigating motherhood and marriage. The woman figuring out what strength meant. The woman who thought she understood survival.
Sometimes I read her words now and recognize her immediately.
Sometimes I want to reach through the page and tell her:
You have absolutely no idea.
But she matters.
Her experiences matter.
The people she collected matter.
Because every version of me brought something forward into the next one.
And that is really what this space is about.
Not just grief.
Not just loss.
Not just love.
But identity.
Connection.
The people who leave fingerprints on our lives.
The versions of ourselves we outgrow, lose, rediscover, and rebuild.
And the strange, beautiful, painful truth that we can carry everything we've been while still becoming someone new.
So I'm starting before the grief.
Before the loss.
Before everything changed.
Because if you're going to understand where I'm going, I want you to know where I've been.
Welcome to The People We Collect.
